Young Batak Art and Music Workshop

Matthew 5:14-16 - "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

It was May 28, 2019 when we held our first Young Batak: Art and Music Workshop. The Batak village is in the Palawan rainforest more than 65 kilometers away from the city. We believe that being creative adds value to every endeavour in life. It was an opportunity to share God given talents of our volunteers from A Hand Up International with the young Batak children.

The objective of the Art and Music Workshop is to help indigenous young people to be more creative, more passionate and more imaginative in their God given talents, through that, we can inspire more young people to improve their crafts.

Our Art Workshops are led by Anna Rodriguez. God has empowered us to create. Anna's artwork is simple yet very creative. She has won first place in several competitions at her school. She also designed the logo for our organization. Part of her passion is to teach the youngsters in blending colour with imagination and creative design in various mediums. Thank you Anna you are a real superstar!

Our music ministry Workshops are taught by Precious Joy Castillo Dizon (PJ) our all-time music lover. PJ has loved to sing from her early childhood. PJ was chosen as president of her school's music club, from elementary through high school and in college at Holy Trinity University. PJ considers it to be an honour and a privilege to share her knowledge and passion of music to our youngsters. Thank you PJ, we are blessed to have you on our ministry team!

Part of our work with the Batak children is to help them to preserve their native dance and culture. Many tourists come to the village to watch their ancestral dance with percussion, that has been traditionally passed from their forefathers to the next generation.

Children are the key to our future success. They have the same dreams as all children. You are looking at the future of the Philippines. These little ones will be the doctors, engineers, nurses and teachers of tomorrow, if we help them along. Get involved to become co-creators in developing something new. To build, design, construct and create. Which will convert into wealth and prosperity for the native people.

They also have dreams like us. A dream to help lift up their family from poverty and give back to the community.

Would you be part of the next? Join us this summer.

Children are the key to our future success get involved in creating new hope and new opportunities for better jobs, which lead to better futures. A hand up and hope, not a hand out, often leads people to look to the motivation for our caring for impoverished children. - Jesus
